The girls have wanted to do an art sale since we moved here so we finally put out a table, made some signs, and they sat with their art to sell.

They asked for “By Donation” only so that people could give whatever they felt able to, and they pledged to donate half of their collections to help Northern Dogs get vet care they need, as we’ve learned through adopting our own Northern Dogs that vet care does not exist in most Northern Canadian communities.
They have learned SO MUCH through this project of theirs!
- They’ve learned about business in terms of how much it costs to buy supplies, and then taking that cost out of their earnings to find out how much profit is actually made.
- They’ve researched and learned different styles and methods of painting, and they’ve created art specifically because a certain painting sells more quickly than others.
- They’ve gotten practice counting money, adding, subtracting, dividing (half goes to the dogs, then 1/4 goes to each girl).
- We went to the bank so they could withdraw money to be used for making change, and then went back to the bank to deposit that amount back again, plus the money they’d collected so far.
They have collected a total of $300!
So far, we sent $140 of that to Flights For Hope to help a pregnant dog come from Iqaluit, with the help of Sash-Mar Paws Helping Northern Dogs.
This was especially close to our hearts as Sash-Mar is the page where we found our dogs that we adopted over the last few years.
They even got a shout out from It Takes A Village Dog Rescue for helping, as they’re the rescue that took in Kacey from Iqaluit (and, coincidentally, are the rescue that we adopted our Iqaluit dog through, whose name is also Casey!)

A week later, Kacey gave birth to her five puppies.
The girls were so proud and excited to be “heroes” for this dog, and that they helped not one, but SIX dogs who will now get health care, vaccinations, spays/neuters (when they’re old enough) and families of their own to be loved, cherished, and cared for.
That alone is more than I think any school experience could have given them.
This is Life Learning.
Now that the weather has changed, we’ve decided to make it an ongoing art fundraiser, but online! Follow the girls new Painting For Pups page to choose art, and/or make a donation to help these little fundraisers help more northern dogs!
